Rambling Roses
Throughout its history, Waltrip High School has been committed to creating, for students, an environment that is perfectly conducive to learning. Since opening its doors in 1960, Waltrip has continued to offer a comprehensive academic curriculum, as well as vocational computer training, JROTC, dance, child care professions training, and the highly respected International Baccalaureate program. Extra- curricular opportunities open to Waltrip include dance team, cheerleading, the school newspaper, the school yearbook, band, drama, and athletics.
Waltrip High School has had many distinguished graduates in its' past. Famous acting talents, such as Shelly Duvall and Patrick Swayze, were both graduates of Waltrip. Two of Waltrip's football players, Van Malone (Detroit Lions), and Keenan McCardell (Jacksonville Jaguars), have gone on to play professionally
Part of the tradition at Waltrip includes the Rambling Roses Dance Team, the succesor to The Imperial Guard. Students chosen for the squad provide spirit and dancing at pep rallies, competitions, our annual Spring Show, and also serve as ambassadors of good will for Waltrip. The Roses are composed of an exemplary group of young people whose athletic talent precedes them as well as their positive attitudes. |
