Imperial Guard Alumnae 2012 Scholarships Awarded

The Imperial Guard Alumnae are proud to announce the winners of the 2012 Scholarships. The Imperial Guard Alumnae was formed in 1999 at a reunion of former members of the drum and bugle corps at Waltrip High School. The IGA have given scholarships every year since 1999 to deserving seniors and current college students to further their education. The scholarship funds are raised through donations from members and through IGA fund raisers held in the Houston area. The following Waltrip graduates were each given an award of $1,000.00: Dylan Lochridge-Fletcher, Raven Garza, Ashley Metzler and Brittany Metzler. Additionally, Katie McClosky, a junior at the University of Houston and a former Waltrip graduate, and Emily Thompson, a St. Pius senior, each received a $1,000 scholarship. A total of $6,000.00 was given in scholarships this year.

The Imperial Guard Alumnae raised additional funds for the 2013 scholarships on April 28, 2012 at The Live Oak Bar and Grill. The event was an outstanding success with approximately 200 supporters attending. Entertainment on the deck under the live oak tree was provided by Richard Holland '75 and Gene Hensley '75, known as Last Call. The membership and friends of IGA provided many gift baskets for a Chinese auction, a live auction, and a raffle. It was great fun for everyone and funds were added to the scholarship fund for 2013. Look for scholarship applications on the IGA website at www.imperialguardalumnae.org.

The IGA board members would like to thank the following contributors who donated items for the event: Debbie Sherrill Adams '62, Pam Sebesta Basco '68, Kathy Carr Bowlin '75, Cyclone Anaya's Mexican Kitchen, The Taste of Texas Restaurant, Mark Dacus, President, Games2U, Delinda Thompson Holland '76, Donna Sanford Holle '63, May Huebner Peek '64, Cindy Greene Reibenstein '72, Mary Senske Schroeder '65, Donna Williford Schultz '68, and Paula Peeples Waller '68.

We are a strong supporter of the Waltrip community and, with help from our members and friends, we will continue the tradition of awarding Imperial Guard Alumnae Scholarship Funds to deserving students. The IGA also offers the Legacy Bricks as a way to honor family and friends of Waltrip High School. The Legacy Bricks will be a part of the renovation of Waltrip High School. Further information on the scholarships and the Legacy Bricks is available on the website at www.imperialguardalumnae.org.
